In today's digital age, smartphones are not just a means of communication, but also a repository for our personal information, photos, banking apps, and confidential data. Losing or stealing your phone can cause significant financial and personal losses. If your smartphone is ever stolen, take the following important steps immediately without panicking:

1. Track the Device's Location
Try to locate your phone as soon as it's lost. Android users can use Google's Find My Device service, and iPhone users can use Apple's Find My service to check their phone's last or live location. If the phone is online, it can also be remotely locked.

2. Block your SIM card immediately.
The biggest risk after a phone theft is the misuse of your OTP (one-time password). Immediately contact your telecom operator to have your SIM blocked. Then, have a new SIM card issued with the same number to ensure your bank accounts and social media apps remain secure.

3. Freeze banking services and UPI.
If you have mobile banking or UPI apps (like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) working, immediately call the relevant bank's customer service. Temporarily block your internet banking and UPI services. If you notice any unauthorized transactions, immediately report them to your bank and cybercrime.

4. File a police complaint.
Make sure to file an FIR for phone theft at the nearest police station and keep its receipt safely.
