Important news for employees! What should you do if your PF balance doesn't arrive within 20 days? Learn about the new EPFO rule

If you deposit money into your company's PF account every month, this news is important for you. Provident Fund (PF) is a vital financial support for private sector employees. Deposits in PF come in handy after retirement or in times of need. However, there is often a delay in the funds being credited to the account after filing a PF claim. In such a situation, important information has emerged for employees.

PF claims must be settled within 20 days
The Ministry of Labour and Employment notified the Employee Provident Fund Scheme 2026, Employee Pension Scheme 2026, and Employee Deposit-Linked Insurance Scheme 2026 in June 2026. This rule came into effect from June 29, 2026. Under the new rule, claims related to PF, pension, and Employee Deposit-Linked Insurance Scheme must be settled within 20 days.

Where to complain if there is a delay?

If a PF claim remains unsettled after 20 days, the employee can file a complaint with the EPFO. They can contact the Regional Director. The EPFiGMS portal also offers an online complaint facility.

A grievance redressal program is held on the 10th of every month. Problems related to PF and pension can be raised in this program.

Can interest be paid on delays?
In a case filed by the Consumer Commission in Mumbai, the EPFO was directed to pay 6% annual interest on delayed PF claims. The employee's claim was approximately ₹14.06 lakh, and the settlement was delayed by 35 days. However, the possibility of additional interest or compensation in such cases depends on the order and circumstances of the case.

The EPFO has upgraded its CITES 2.01 software. This new system will allow members to see in advance the maximum PF withdrawal limit for reasons such as medical treatment, home purchase, marriage, and education.

Additionally, the new changes stipulate that a minimum of 12 months of service is required to withdraw certain PF advance amounts. This will help employees understand in advance how much they can withdraw if needed.
