For such youth, the Indian Postal Department has announced a major recruitment drive. The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has released a notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026. This recruitment process will fill over 25,000 positions. Most importantly, candidates will not have to appear for any written examination to be appointed to these positions.
According to the latest recruitment notification from the Postal Department, recruitment will be made for the positions of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Postal Servant at various post offices across the country. According to the notification, the online one-time registration (OTR) process for this recruitment will begin on August 31, 2026. Subsequently, online applications will be accepted starting September 2, 2026. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of India Post.

To become a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), candidates must have passed the 10th grade with Mathematics and English as subjects from a recognized board. They must also meet the local language qualifications required for the respective position.
Special rules regarding local language
Special rules apply to local language requirements for candidates from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim, and Nagaland. In these states, knowledge of the relevant local tribal language or dialect may be required in addition to English or Hindi. If the relevant local language is not taught until the 10th grade in a given location, the candidate's knowledge of the language will be verified through a certificate issued by the designated authorities.
Application Fee: The application fee for GDS recruitment is ₹ 100. However, SC, ST, PWD, women, and transgender candidates are exempted from the application fee.
Documents required for application
To apply online, candidates will need their 10th-grade marksheet, identity card, caste certificate, disability certificate (PwBD, EWS certificate), proof of date of birth, and a medical certificate from a government hospital or dispensary where applicable. Where a local or tribal language certificate is required, candidates will also need to provide proof of the same. When applying, candidates should ensure that the information on their documents matches the information provided in the application form.
