As India gears up for the crucial fourth Test against England starting 23 July in Manchester, all eyes are on the playing XI selection. Trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, Team India must win this Test to stay alive in the contest. However, injuries to key players have left the team management with a few tough choices.
Injury Woes: Reddy Out, Akash Deep Doubtful
All-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out due to injury, and Akash Deep—who featured in the last two Tests—is reportedly struggling with fitness. According to reports, he was seen having difficulty even climbing stairs in Manchester. His exclusion opens the door for a potential debutant.
Jurel for Wicketkeeping, Pant as Specialist Batsman?
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has weighed in on the situation, suggesting that Dhruv Jurel should be given the gloves. Although Rishabh Pant has resumed wicketkeeping practice, there's still uncertainty over his full recovery. Chopra believes it would be wise to use Pant solely as a batter to avoid any risks, and let Jurel handle the wicketkeeping duties. Jurel, known for his solid batting, could also help fill the void left by Nitish Reddy in the middle order.
Anshul Kamboj’s Big Break?
With Akash Deep almost certain to miss the match, Anshul Kamboj is being considered for a debut. Kamboj has shown excellent form in domestic first-class cricket, and his seam bowling style is expected to be effective in English conditions. His batting ability further strengthens his case as a valuable all-round option.
