AWACS Project DRDO: After Operation Sindoor, the Indian government is engaged in making the armed forces more powerful. In view of this, the Center has taken a big decision regarding AWACS. AWACS is a kind of flying control system. Know why it is important.
The Narendra Modi government at the center has given the green signal to a big project. Under this project, India will make the next generation 'Airborne Early Warning and Control System' i.e. AWACS. This will greatly increase the strength of the Indian Air Force. Also, India will join the select countries that have such technology. This project is worth about Rs 20,000 crore. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will complete this project. Under this, the Indian Air Force will get six big AWACS.
Centre's big decision regarding 'sky eye'
India will now build indigenous AWACS. This will make India one of the few countries that have this technology. This system will be able to keep an eye on enemy aircraft and other equipment from a distance. It will be like a flying control center. After the government's approval, DRDO will work in collaboration with Indian companies and Airbus. They will install a special antenna and other systems on the A321 aircraft.
This project will take approximately three years
The IAF already has six A321 aircraft taken from Air India. Modifications will be made in these aircraft. A 'dorsal fin' will be installed on them. This will allow the radar to see all around. This project will take about three years to complete. This will give Indian companies the experience of working on complex systems. It will have a completely indigenous mission control system and AESA radar. The AWACS India program is also called 'Netra MkII'. DRDO has also received approval to build a prototype of the fifth generation Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft.
Currently there are warning aircraft named 'Netra'
This is the first time that Airbus's platform will be used for such work. Usually Boeing's aircraft are used for such work. This project can also give India an opportunity to export in the future. The Indian Air Force currently uses small early warning aircraft called 'Netra'. These were used in the conflicts with Pakistan. The Air Force also has three IL76 'Falcon' systems, which were built jointly with Israel and Russia. But they keep having technical problems.
Why is this a big achievement for India
Regarding this project, an official said that this will be a big achievement for India. We will now join the countries that can make such systems on their own. This project is a big step towards making India self-reliant. This will make the Indian Air Force even more powerful. Also, Indian companies will get a chance to learn new technology.
How AWAcs works
AWACS is a kind of flying radar . It is installed in the aircraft and can see enemy aircraft and missiles from a distance. This helps the Air Force to know about the threat in time and it can retaliate. It is a kind of flying security guard in the sky. This project is also important because till now India was dependent on other countries for such systems. Now India will be able to make such systems itself, so that it will not have to depend on anyone else. This will also promote the 'Make in India' campaign.
