In a significant move to deepen maritime ties, Indian Navy’s INS Sandhyayak arrived at Port Klang, Malaysia, marking its first-ever visit to the country. The vessel will remain docked from 16 to 19 July, during which naval officers from both nations will engage in technical exchanges and discussions to enhance cooperation in marine survey and technology.

This visit is part of the Prime Minister’s Mahasagar Mission, which aims to strengthen peace, security, and development in the Indo-Pacific region through collaboration with neighboring countries.

Key Features of INS Sandhyayak

• Designed and built entirely in India

• Specializes in hydrographic surveys, mapping sea depths, and rescue operations

• Equipped with a helicopter and a small onboard hospital

• Part of India's Survey Vessel Large (SVL) class

• Officially inducted into the Navy on 3 February 2024 in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Strengthening Indo-Malaysian Naval Ties

India and Malaysia have long-standing defence relations, from joint military training to strategic dialogue. Indian naval ships frequently visit Malaysian ports, promoting interoperability and strengthening diplomatic and maritime bonds. India has also consistently participated in key Malaysian defence exhibitions such as LIMA and DSA.

Strategic Significance

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh earlier noted that INS Sandhyayak would enhance India’s strategic presence in the Indo-Pacific, reinforcing the country’s role in ensuring peace and maritime security in the region.

The visit not only highlights India’s indigenous naval capabilities but also reaffirms its commitment to regional maritime cooperation and stability.
