Indian women’s cricket team star Jemimah Rodrigues recently shared a dramatic and emotional incident from her childhood that left everyone stunned—and later became a story her family still laughs about. Jemimah revealed that when she was just eight years old, she narrowly escaped a serious accident after falling from the first floor while playing with her cousins.
She spoke about this frightening episode during an appearance on Breakfast with Champions, where she opened up about how close she came to a major injury.
How the accident happened
Jemimah recalled that she had gone to a church program with her cousins. While the adults were inside the auditorium attending the program, the children were playing outside. They were playing a game they called “slipper fight,” where slippers and shoes were thrown at each other, and the rule was that the other person had to retrieve them.
During the game, one of her cousins threw a slipper across a gap. Jemimah, determined to get it, decided to jump.
She said that she confidently declared she would retrieve it “like a hero,” but in the process, she lost her balance and fell straight from the first floor.
A miraculous escape
What happened next saved her from serious harm. Jemimah revealed that someone was sitting below at that exact moment, and she landed on that person’s head instead of hitting the ground directly. Her cousins were so terrified that they thought she had died.
Fortunately, Jemimah escaped without life-threatening injuries, turning what could have been a tragic accident into a miraculous escape—one that still shocks people when they hear it.
Jemimah’s present: A leader on the field
Today, Jemimah Rodrigues is one of the most important pillars of Indian women’s cricket. She is set to take on a new responsibility as the captain of Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League.
She was also a key contributor to India’s recent historic performance at the ICC Women’s World Cup. In the WPL so far, Jemimah has played 27 matches for Delhi Capitals, scoring 507 runs at an impressive strike rate of 139.67.
From close call to cricket star
Jemimah’s story is a reminder of how unpredictable life can be. From a terrifying fall in childhood to becoming a leader for both club and country, her journey reflects resilience, courage, and determination—qualities that continue to define her both on and off the cricket field.
