Jio Platforms Shares Surge to ₹1,490, Adding ₹67,213 Crore to Market Value in Minutes

Jio Platforms shares continued their strong rally in the stock market, reaching a new record high and significantly increasing the company's market valuation. The stock climbed more than 5% during early trading on Thursday, touching ₹1,490 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The sharp rise added approximately ₹67,213 crore to the company's market capitalisation compared with the previous trading session's closing valuation. The performance has drawn attention to Jio Platforms' growing market value and raised questions about whether it could eventually overtake its parent company, Reliance Industries, in market capitalisation.

Jio Platforms Shares Rise More Than 33% Above the Issue Price

According to the reported market figures, Jio Platforms shares had closed at ₹1,417.35 on Wednesday, nearly 27% above their issue price. On Thursday, the stock opened at ₹1,448.05 before continuing its upward movement.

At around 9:50 a.m., the shares were trading at ₹1,470.40, up 3.74% at that point in the session. They subsequently reached a reported high of ₹1,490, taking their gain to more than 33% above the issue price.

The strong performance indicates substantial buying interest in the stock. However, share prices can fluctuate during the trading session, and early gains do not guarantee that the stock will maintain its upward momentum.

Market Capitalisation Increases by ₹67,213 Crore

The rise in Jio Platforms' share price translated into a significant increase in its market capitalisation.

At the reported record high, the company's market value reached approximately ₹13,73,974.56 crore. At the end of the previous trading session, its valuation stood at around ₹13,06,761.47 crore.

The difference between these figures amounts to approximately ₹67,213.09 crore. In other words, the company's market capitalisation increased by more than ₹67,000 crore as its share price climbed.

At around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, the reported market capitalisation stood at approximately ₹13,50,872.73 crore, reflecting fluctuations in the stock price during the session.

It is important to understand that market capitalisation represents the market value of a company's outstanding shares. An increase in this figure does not mean the company has earned the same amount in revenue or profit.

Could Jio Platforms Overtake Reliance Industries?

Jio Platforms' rising valuation has also brought attention to the difference between its market capitalisation and that of Reliance Industries, its parent company.

According to the reported figures, Reliance Industries shares were trading at ₹1,176.40 around 9:50 a.m., up approximately 1.50%. Its market capitalisation stood at around ₹15,91,764.87 crore.

At those reported valuations, the gap between the two companies was approximately ₹2.41 lakh crore.

If Jio Platforms continues to gain value while Reliance Industries' valuation grows more slowly, the gap could narrow. However, overtaking Reliance Industries would depend on several factors, including future share-price movements, business performance, investor expectations and broader market conditions.

A short-term rally alone is not enough to establish whether Jio Platforms can become the country's most valuable company.

Sensex and Nifty Also Trade Higher

The broader stock market also recorded gains during the reported morning session.

The BSE Sensex opened at 73,268.47 and rose to approximately 73,506.93, gaining around 260.9 points. The benchmark had closed at 73,246.03 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty was trading at approximately 22,760.70, up around 62 points. During the session, the index reportedly touched 22,769.70.

These movements suggest that the market was trading positively during the period covered by the report. Nevertheless, investors should expect fluctuations, particularly when individual stocks experience sharp price movements.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

Jio Platforms' rally highlights the importance of examining a company's business fundamentals alongside its stock-market performance.

Investors should consider revenue growth, profitability, debt, future investment requirements, competitive conditions and valuation before making an investment decision. A rapidly rising share price can reflect optimism about a company's prospects, but it can also increase the risk of buying at an expensive valuation.

The next direction of Jio Platforms shares will depend on how investor expectations develop and whether the company's financial performance supports its market value.

For now, the reported rally has significantly increased Jio Platforms' market capitalisation and brought its valuation closer to that of Reliance Industries. Whether this momentum continues will become clearer as further trading sessions and business developments unfold.
