Kanpur: Missing Railway Officer Found Dead in Drain After 3 Days, Family Suspects Foul Play

In a disturbing incident from Kanpur, the body of Lakshmi Narayan Prasad, a Chief Office Superintendent of Railways, was recovered from a drain in Naubasta on Tuesday, three days after he went missing. His disappearance and mysterious death have raised serious concerns among his family and colleagues.

Left Home for Work, Never Reached Office

According to the family, Lakshmi Narayan (aged around 58) left home on the morning of July 5 around 9:30 AM, saying he was going to office as usual. However, by 11 AM, his office in Govindpuri called the family to ask why he hadn’t arrived. That’s when the family realized something was wrong.

Attempts to reach him on his mobile phone failed as it was switched off. After searching on their own and getting no leads from friends or relatives, the family filed a missing person complaint at Naubasta Police Station.

Body Found in Drain, Police Begin Investigation

On July 8, a local resident spotted a swollen body in a drain near Naubasta and informed the police. The body was identified as that of Lakshmi Narayan. His remains have been sent for postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Eyewitnesses stated that the body appeared to be in the drain for at least two to three days, and its condition suggested possible foul play.

Family and Union Leaders Demand Probe

Lakshmi Narayan, who was physically handicapped, had just one and a half years left before retirement. His family is in deep shock and suspects he may have been murdered. They emphasized that he had no known enemies and followed a routine lifestyle.

Vikram Singh, a leader of the Railway Employees Association, expressed concern over the incident and demanded a thorough investigation from the police and administration.

“A railway officer disappears without a trace and is later found dead in such a condition? This is extremely serious. The administration must find out who did this and why,” Singh said.

Police Await Postmortem Report

Police officials have stated that they are investigating all angles, including accident, suicide, and murder. The case will be further pursued once the postmortem report clarifies the cause of death.

This tragic case has sparked unease among railway employees and the local community, who are now demanding swift action and justice for the deceased officer.
