On Team India's England tour, the absence of veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin is clearly visible — even in something as routine as a team bus ride. But when spinner Kuldeep Yadav was spotted sitting on Rohit Sharma’s regular seat, fans were quick to speculate. Was it symbolic? An attempt to fill the leadership void?
Kuldeep addressed the buzz himself after the intra-squad match on June 15, and revealed the real reason behind taking Rohit’s spot.
“I Sit on Rohit Bhai's Seat... But Not to Replace Him” – Kuldeep Yadav
Putting all speculations to rest, Kuldeep clarified during a press conference:
“I sit on Rohit Bhai’s seat just so I can sit near Jaddu Bhai (Ravindra Jadeja). I can never replace Rohit Bhai.”
Kuldeep emphasized that it’s not about filling anyone’s shoes but about proximity to his spin partner. With Ashwin no longer in the side, Kuldeep sees great value in staying close to Jadeja to exchange ideas, strategies, and support during the series.
"Ashwin Bhai Taught Me So Much"
Kuldeep also reflected on Ashwin's absence and his learnings:
“Ashwin Bhai is not here, and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years. That’s why staying close to Jaddu Bhai is important for me. I'm happy to have him as a spin partner. It will be fun to bowl alongside him.”
The camaraderie among India's spinners continues even in a phase of transition.
A Team in Transition — But a Big Chance for the Young Guns
Kuldeep admitted that the team will miss legends like Rohit, Virat, and Ashwin, who all recently announced their retirements from Test cricket. But he also sees this as a turning point:
“It’s a golden opportunity for the youth. Seniors have paved the way, and now it’s our time to step up.”
