Significance of Lohri fire
On Lohri, in the evening, wood is collected and a bonfire is lit at a crossroads or in an open space near the house. People then dance around it to celebrate the new harvest. This fire is considered a symbol of the god Agni. According to scriptures, fire is considered the mouth of the gods. It is also customary to offer new harvests to the sacred fire of Lohri. Offering sesame seeds, peanuts, and sweets like rewadi and gajak, etc., reaches the gods, symbolizing prayer, enjoyment, and gratitude.
