LPG Gas Cylinder: Big news for consumers! 6 free cylinders per year; where and for whom is this decision applicable?
Just before the festive season , the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken a major decision to ease the burden of domestic gas prices. A scheme to provide six free LPG cylinders per year to ordinary families under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) has been approved. Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma announced this decision in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. This scheme will not benefit all LPG consumers in Jammu and Kashmir, but only those eligible under the AAY scheme.
How to avail the benefits of the scheme?
According to information previously provided by the government in the Assembly, under this scheme, the cost of six LPG refills per year is proposed to be deposited directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts. This amount is likely to be disbursed through DBT. This could provide some relief to eligible poor families from the rising prices of cooking gas. Furthermore, Aadhaar card linking is required to receive the money through DBT.
Jammu and Kashmir has 8.79 lakh AAY beneficiaries.
According to information presented in the Assembly in September, there are approximately 8.79 lakh AAY beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the actual number of final beneficiaries and the payment process will only be clear after a detailed order is issued by the government.
LPG is most expensive in Leh
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that the most expensive domestic LPG cylinder in the country is available in Leh. The price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Leh is Rs 1,179, which is about Rs 237 more expensive than Delhi. Whereas the price of a commercial LPG cylinder is Rs 3,385.50. Even in the case of commercial cylinders, there is a difference of about Rs 638 in Leh compared to Delhi. On one hand, while the issue of LPG prices and household expenses is in discussion, on the other hand, this decision of the Jammu and Kashmir government is expected to provide huge financial relief to the common families.
