Semolina halwa is a common dessert across many Indian homes, but with a few simple tweaks, you can transform it into a heavenly treat perfect for Ekadashi. Here’s how to make it.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
-
1 cup semolina (suji)
-
1 cup desi ghee (clarified butter)
-
2 cups milk
-
1¼ cup sugar
-
8-10 almonds (chopped)
-
8-10 cashews (chopped)
-
Any other dry fruits you like (optional)
How to Make Semolina Halwa for Ekadashi
-
Soak the semolina in milk for some time to soften it.
-
Heat some ghee in a pan and lightly roast the chopped almonds, cashews, and other dry fruits until golden. Remove them and keep aside.
-
Add the remaining ghee to the pan and melt the sugar in it on low heat.
-
Now add the soaked semolina along with milk. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
-
Roast the semolina on medium flame until it starts turning golden brown and emits a fragrant aroma.
-
Add about two and a half times water to the pan, cover it with a lid, and let it cook for 2–3 minutes until the semolina absorbs the liquid and thickens.
-
When the halwa starts leaving the sides of the pan and the ghee separates, add the roasted dry fruits and mix well.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve the halwa hot as prasad to offer to Lord Vishnu on Nirjala Ekadashi. After the prayer, break your fast with this delicious semolina pudding and share it with your family and friends. The rich aroma and creamy texture will have everyone asking for a second bowl!
