Afghanistan Earthquake: 622 people have died and more than 1500 people are reported to be injured in a powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan. Tremors were felt in several towns of Kunar province near Jalalabad city of Nangarhar province late on Sunday night. According to Afghanistan time, the magnitude of the earthquake that struck at 11:47 pm was measured at 6.0.

According to the US Geological Survey, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border late Sunday night. According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was near Jalalabad in Nangarhar province and its depth was 8 kilometers. The earthquake was so severe that the death toll is constantly rising. So far 622 people have died and more than 1500 people have been injured in the eastern province of Nangarhar. There has also been heavy damage in many areas.

The earthquake was so strong that its tremors were felt in many parts of India, especially Delhi-NCR. Apart from this, tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Pakistan. About 20 minutes later, a second earthquake occurred in the same province, whose magnitude was 4.5 and depth was 10 kilometers. It occurred at 11:47 pm local time on Sunday.

Afghanistan hit by 6.3 magnitude earthquake

On October 7, 2023, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, followed by strong tremors. The Taliban government estimates that at least 4,000 people were killed. The United Nations put the death toll at a much lower figure, around 1,500. It was the deadliest natural disaster to hit Afghanistan in recent times.

Earthquake for the 5th time in a month

Let us tell you that this is the fifth earthquake in Afghanistan in the last one month. This country is a sensitive area in terms of earthquakes. Hence, earthquakes keep happening here frequently. Earlier, an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude occurred on 27 August, 4.9 magnitude on 17 August, and 4.2 magnitude at a depth of 10 km on 13 August. Earlier, on 8 August, an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude occurred at a depth of 10 km.

How is the intensity of an earthquake measured?

Earthquakes are measured using the Richter scale. It is called the Richter Magnitude Test Scale. On the Richter scale, earthquakes are measured on the basis of 1 to 9. It is measured from its center i.e. the epicenter. The intensity of the energy released from within the earth during an earthquake is measured by this. The intensity of the earthquake shock is estimated from this intensity.
