Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj has been fined for his conduct during the fourth day of the ongoing Lord’s Test against England. The incident occurred when Siraj dismissed England opener Ben Duckett in the first session of the day. After getting Duckett caught by Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj's celebration turned aggressive as he gave a physical nudge to the departing batter. This action has now cost him 15 percent of his match fee and added another demerit point to his disciplinary record.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) found Siraj guilty under Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact during international matches. This is Siraj’s second such offense in the past 24 months, increasing his total demerit points to two.
Despite the disciplinary setback, Siraj had a notable performance in the match. He claimed four wickets for 116 runs, taking 2 wickets in each innings—2 for 85 in the first and 2 for 31 in the second. His contribution was vital in restricting England to 192 runs in their second innings, giving India a fighting chance.
As the Test hangs in balance, England needs six wickets to secure victory while India still requires 135 more runs. After both teams scored 387 runs each in their respective first innings, the match has set up a tense finale. At stumps on Day 4, India found themselves under pressure at 58 for 4, and the final day promises a thrilling finish.
While Siraj’s passion and intensity are often seen as assets to India’s bowling attack, this incident serves as a reminder of the fine line between aggressive cricket and unacceptable behavior under the sport’s code of conduct.
