Suspected Cases and Immediate Action

During routine screening at government medical colleges in Kozhikode and Malappuram, two individuals showed symptoms consistent with Nipah virus. Their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune for confirmation.

26 Special Teams Deployed in Each District

Following an emergency review meeting, Health Minister Veena George announced that:

• 26 dedicated teams have been deployed in each district for contact tracing, symptom monitoring, and public awareness.

• The police department has been roped in to assist in tracking those who may have come into contact with the suspected patients.

• The state has activated the Nipah Protocol, which includes enhanced surveillance and containment strategies.

Containment Zones and Public Advisory

District authorities have been instructed to mark containment zones where necessary and issue public announcements to raise awareness.
Key steps include:

• Establishing helpline numbers at both the state and local levels

• Monitoring for unexplained or unnatural deaths, which could signal hidden transmission

• Launching public education drives to inform citizens about early symptoms and preventive measures
