Nitish Reddy Named Captain of Bhimavaram Bulls in Andhra Premier League

Young Team India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, currently touring England for the Test series, has received a pleasant surprise from back home — he has been appointed captain of the Bhimavaram Bulls for the upcoming season of the Andhra Premier League (APL) 2025.

While Nitish is focused on representing India in the longest format — and recently made an impact with the ball during the Lord’s Test — this development brings added recognition to his growing stature in Indian domestic cricket.

Star Power in Andhra Cricket

Reddy, a key figure in Andhra cricket, also plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who retained him for ₹6 crore. Despite a lukewarm batting performance in England so far, his bowling skills have earned him praise.

The Andhra Premier League, launched in 2022, follows a round-robin format and features 19 matches among seven teams:

  • Amravati Lions

  • Bhimavaram Bulls (Nitish Reddy – captain)

  • Kakinada Kings

  • Royals of Rayalaseema

  • Simhadri Vizag Lions

  • Tungabhadra Warriors

  • Vijayawada Sunshiners

Other prominent players leading teams this season include Hanuma Vihari, KS Bharat, Sheikh Rashid, Ricky Bhui, and Ashwin Hebbar.

Past Champions

In the tournament’s short history, Coastal Riders, Rayalaseema Kings, and Vizag Warriors have lifted the trophy in previous editions.

Nitish’s new captaincy role is expected to further boost local fan engagement and bring added competitiveness to the Bhimavaram Bulls squad in APL 2025.
