Students from economically weaker families have received an important extension for applying under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic year. How Much Scholarship Will Students Receive?

The money is transferred directly into the student's bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system using the Public Financial Management System.

This means eligible students do not normally receive the scholarship as cash through their school; the financial assistance is transferred electronically after the required verification process.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is aimed at meritorious students from economically weaker sections.

For the 2026-27 cycle, important eligibility conditions include:

• The student should be studying in an eligible government, government-aided or local body school.

• The student's parental income should not exceed ₹3.50 lakh per year.

• The student generally needs at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class VII to appear for the selection test.

• A 5% relaxation is available for SC/ST students.

• The student must qualify through the prescribed selection process conducted by the State/UT.
