Why Fuel Prices Differ Across Cities
Even though petrol and diesel prices are revised daily, they are not uniform throughout the country. Several factors influence the final retail price, including:
-
State-specific Value Added Tax (VAT)
-
Local taxes imposed by municipal authorities
-
Transportation and freight charges
-
Dealer commission
-
Crude oil prices in the international market
-
Exchange rate between the Indian Rupee and the US Dollar
Because of these variables, neighbouring cities may also have different fuel prices.
How Are Petrol and Diesel Prices Decided?
India's fuel prices are reviewed and updated daily by government-owned oil marketing companies based on international crude oil prices and currency fluctuations. These revisions are implemented every morning, ensuring that retail fuel prices reflect changes in global energy markets while accounting for domestic taxes and operational costs.
Before You Refuel
With fuel prices changing every day in many cities, checking the latest rates before visiting a petrol pump can help consumers stay informed. While today's revision has brought only minor changes in select locations, motorists should continue monitoring daily updates, especially during periods of volatility in global crude oil markets.
For Rajasthan residents, fuel prices remain steady today, while most metropolitan cities have also reported only marginal fluctuations, providing some stability for commuters and transport operators alike.
