Photos of Suspected Shooters in Jalandhar AAP Leader Murder Emerge; Police Suspect Targeted Killing

Police on Tuesday released photographs of two suspects believed to be involved in the killing of Lucky Oberoi, a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who was shot dead outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area of Jalandhar earlier in the day.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 7:15 a.m. when Oberoi was returning to his vehicle after offering prayers at the gurdwara, a routine he reportedly followed daily. As he sat inside his Thar vehicle, two assailants arrived on a scooter and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Police Investigation Points to Pre-Planned Attack

Senior police officials said preliminary investigation and CCTV footage indicate that the attack was premeditated. ADCP Jayant Puri stated that the suspects appeared to have conducted prior surveillance, as they were aware of Oberoi’s daily schedule and movements.

Investigators noted that the assailants waited until Oberoi entered his vehicle before firing, a tactic police say suggests professional execution intended to limit the victim’s ability to escape or respond.

Medical Findings

Doctors at Shriram Hospital, where Oberoi was taken following the attack, confirmed that he had sustained multiple gunshot injuries. Despite emergency medical intervention and ventilator support, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.

Political and Personal Background

Lucky Oberoi was an active member of the Aam Aadmi Party and was considered close to party leaders in the Jalandhar Cantonment area. His wife had previously contested municipal elections on an AAP ticket. He is survived by his mother, two brothers, and three children.

Manhunt Underway

Police have issued alerts across city checkpoints and are analysing CCTV footage from the gurdwara vicinity and nearby routes to trace the suspects and identify the scooter used in the crime. Forensic teams have also been deployed as part of the investigation.

Officials said no group has claimed responsibility so far, but the manner of execution has raised suspicions of the involvement of organised criminal elements. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
