The central government has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The Union Cabinet has approved a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore for the scheme during this period.

For millions of eligible farmer families, this means the government's direct income-support programme will continue for another five years. Under PM-KISAN, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 every year, transferred directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

What is PM-KISAN?

The PM-KISAN scheme was launched in February 2019 with the aim of providing financial support to eligible farmer families to help meet agricultural and household-related needs.

Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The money is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account after the required verification and authentication processes.

The government says the scheme is designed to provide timely financial support and help farmers make investments in agricultural activities such as seeds, fertilisers, irrigation and machinery.

Government Approves ₹3.15 Lakh Crore for the Next Five Years

The latest Cabinet approval extends PM-KISAN from 2026-27 through 2030-31, with a financial allocation of ₹3.15 lakh crore.

According to the government, more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has already been transferred directly to farmers through 23 instalments since the scheme began. The 23rd instalment alone benefited more than 9.49 crore farmers, with over ₹18,984 crore released.

The continuation is aimed at ensuring that eligible farmers continue receiving predictable financial assistance without interruption.

Who Can Benefit From PM-KISAN?

PM-KISAN is intended for eligible landholding farmer families, subject to the scheme's eligibility conditions and exclusions.

Farmers should ensure that their beneficiary details, Aadhaar authentication, land records and bank-account information are correctly updated. Errors or incomplete verification can affect the transfer of instalments.

The scheme uses digital verification and DBT mechanisms to transfer money directly to beneficiaries rather than through intermediaries.

How Much Money Does a Farmer Get?

An evaluation cited by the government found that more than 92% of beneficiaries reported using the assistance for agricultural activities or investment, while around 85% reported improvements in agricultural income and reduced dependence on informal credit.

Women farmers have also received significant support through the programme. According to government data, more than ₹1.06 lakh crore has been transferred to women farmers since the scheme's launch.

Those who believe they are eligible but are not receiving instalments should verify whether their land records, Aadhaar authentication, bank details and other required information are correctly recorded.
