The latest approvals include more than 29,000 additional houses sanctioned across Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh. The government has said that the scheme is being regularly monitored to ensure that eligible families receive housing assistance.

Women Get Special Importance Under PMAY-U 2.0

According to the latest government data, 17.19 lakh of the 18.77 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 have been allotted to women. That accounts for around 92% of the sanctioned houses.

The government says houses under the scheme are generally sanctioned in the name of the woman of the household or through joint ownership.

Benefits for Senior Citizens and Other Groups

PMAY-U 2.0 also includes beneficiaries from different sections of society.

According to the latest figures:

• 1.80 lakh houses have been allotted to senior citizens

• 3.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for SC beneficiaries

• 1.02 lakh houses have been sanctioned for ST beneficiaries

• 8.22 lakh houses have been sanctioned for OBC beneficiaries

How Many Houses Have Been Approved So Far?

With the latest approvals, PMAY-U 2.0 has reached 18.77 lakh sanctioned houses.

When the earlier PMAY-Urban programme and PMAY-U 2.0 are considered together, more than 1.25 crore houses have been sanctioned, while over 1 crore houses have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
