Every parent dreams of their daughter's education, career, and marriage without financial constraints. To fulfill this dream, the central government has launched the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY). This is one of the country's most popular small savings schemes for daughters, offering higher interest rates than bank fixed deposits.
Key benefits of the scheme:
Attractive interest and tax exemption: The interest earned on this scheme and the entire amount received on maturity are completely tax-free (EEE Category).
Start with a low investment: You can open an account with just ₹250. The maximum deposit allowed in a financial year is ₹1,50,000.
Investment and Maturity: Deposits are required for 15 years from the date of account opening, and the account matures when the daughter turns 21.
Withdrawal for higher education: Up to 50% of the amount can be withdrawn from the account for the daughter's education when she turns 18 years old.
Eligibility and Requirements:
This account can be opened in the name of a girl child below 10 years of age by her parents or legal guardian.
This account can be opened for a maximum of two daughters in a family (special exemption is available in case of twins).
Where and how to open an account?
You can easily open this account by visiting your nearest post office or any authorized bank (such as SBI, PNB, HDFC, etc.) and filling out the 'SSY Application Form.' To do this, you must provide your daughter's birth certificate, her parents' identity card, and proof of address.
