Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Wife Supriya Menon Slams Public Behaviour After Sreenivasan’s Funeral

The Malayalam film industry was left in deep shock after the demise of veteran actor-director Sreenivasan, who passed away on December 20 at the age of 69 after prolonged illness. His funeral was held in Kochi on December 21, where several prominent film personalities gathered to pay their last respects.

However, amid the mourning, Supriya Menon, wife of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, expressed strong anger over the behaviour of people present at the funeral. Taking to social media, Supriya criticised the growing trend of filming, clicking selfies, and turning deeply emotional moments into public spectacles.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Supriya wrote that grief is an extremely personal emotion and families deserve privacy during such painful times. She stated that the constant presence of cameras and mobile phones robbed Sreenivasan’s family of the space needed to mourn in peace. According to her, people were busy taking selfies, recording videos, and pointing cameras at grieving actors instead of showing basic sensitivity.

She further questioned the need for excessive coverage, saying that every moment of life today seems to have become a spectacle. Supriya highlighted how difficult it must be for a family to say goodbye to a loved one while being surrounded by flashing cameras and crowds. She urged people to reflect on their actions and asked whether moments like funerals truly need to be documented and shared publicly.

Supriya’s post struck a chord with many on social media, with users agreeing that there is an urgent need for empathy and restraint, especially during moments of loss. Her message has once again sparked a wider conversation about boundaries, media ethics, and respecting personal grief in the age of social media.
