Ritesh Gandhi, who owns an 8-year-old diesel Range Rover, was forced to sell his luxury SUV due to this policy. Ritesh says that his car was parked for 2 years during the lockdown and its odometer had traveled only 74,000 kilometers.

He wrote on social media platform X, 'My car has been taken care of very well. It is an 8-year-old diesel car with only 74,000 kms of mileage. This car has the potential to easily run 2 lakh kms more in its life, but now due to the ban on 10-year-old diesel vehicles in Delhi, I have to sell it at a cheaper price.' Ritesh also said that the price of the new luxury car is now quite high and there is also the additional cost of 45% GST + cess, which makes this policy even more harsh. He called it a punishment instead of a green policy.

I will like @narendramodi ji to personally look into public plight.. This rule of banning old cars in Delhi really needs some changes.. No one seems happy there n even outside.. Personally I too feel it is bad unless govt does something like giving good money for old car or less…

That's basically a cartel forcing you to purchase a new vehicle unnecessarily so that they earn more taxes. A very sly but lazy policy to boost tax collection by forced sale of new vehicles.

New policy in Delhi

Under the new policy, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years have been banned from refueling at petrol pumps from July 1. Even if these vehicles pass the fitness test, they will not be valid. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have now been installed at more than 350 petrol pumps in Delhi, so that vehicles that do not follow this policy can be identified immediately. According to this, about 62 lakh vehicles have been declared end of life, including 41 lakh two-wheelers and 18 lakh four-wheelers.
