The ongoing tensions in Iran—intensified by recent Israeli military actions—have left thousands of Bangladeshi citizens stranded and anxious. With the threat level rising rapidly, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran has relocated, citing emergency conditions and proximity to sensitive military zones.
Hotlines Activated, Embassy on Alert
To support its citizens during this uncertain time, the embassy has released two emergency hotline numbers:
-
+98 990 857 7368
-
+98 912 206 5745
These numbers are also active on WhatsApp, and citizens in distress have been urged to use them for help.
Mostafa Jamil Khan, Director of the West Asia Wing in Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry, confirmed that no injuries or casualties among Bangladeshis have been reported so far.
Evacuation Possible If Situation Worsens
Jamil Khan added that the Bangladesh government is prepared to evacuate its citizens from Iran, if necessary—just like it did earlier in Lebanon and Libya. For now, Bangladeshi nationals have been urged to stay away from conflict zones or military sites and remain vigilant.
Thousands Could Be at Risk
According to the embassy:
-
672 Bangladeshis are officially registered in Iran — including students and medical travelers.
-
However, between 8,000 to 14,000 unregistered or undocumented Bangladeshis are believed to be in Iran, many using it as a transit country to reach Europe or the Gulf.
This large informal population is harder to reach and more vulnerable in case of escalation.
Embassy Relocation in Progress
In a Facebook advisory, the Bangladesh Embassy urged people not to visit the current premises, as it's located near sensitive Iranian military zones. The First Secretary of the Embassy, currently in Dhaka, has been called back urgently to coordinate operations. The embassy also said that the new location will be disclosed soon.
