The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that domestic LPG consumers will have to complete biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated subsidized price from October 1, 2026.

Consumers who have already completed authentication do not need to take any further action. According to the ministry, as of September 19, 274.3 million active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had completed biometric authentication.
What will change from October 1?
Consumers who haven't completed biometric Aadhaar authentication will still be able to purchase LPG cylinders. However, they will have to pay the applicable market price without subsidy.
The ministry said that after completing the authentication process, consumers can get the subsidised refill price again.
The government has said that the purpose of this move is to ensure that subsidised LPG cylinders reach eligible households and to prevent the use of domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use.
It also aims to identify and remove duplicate and ineligible LPG connections.
What happens if biometric authentication is not completed?
Consumers who don't complete the process by October 1st will continue to receive LPG cylinders, but they will not be subsidized. They can also register their preferences through the oil marketing company's website, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot, and IVRS service.
LPG subsidy amount:
The ministry said the government continues to provide significant subsidy to keep domestic LPG affordable. In September 2026, the subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was approximately ₹210.
Customers who have not yet completed biometric Aadhaar authentication are advised to complete the process before October 1.
