A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was not only subjected to domestic abuse and dowry harassment but also divorced over a video call while watching her husband marry another woman.
Second Marriage and Instant Divorce Over Video Call
The victim, Kaiser Jahan, a resident of Islampur Majra Kesrai, was married to Vakil alias Farid from Suratganj nearly four years ago. According to her complaint, her life took a shocking turn when she received a video call from her husband, who works in Kolkata. During the call, he showed her his new bride and then pronounced triple talaq on the spot.
"I couldn’t believe what I saw," said Kaiser. “He showed me his new wife on video and ended our marriage by saying ‘talaq’ three times.”
Torture for Dowry, Then Thrown Out
Kaiser alleged that her in-laws had been harassing her for dowry since the marriage. They demanded Rs 2 lakh and a bike, despite her father having already spent beyond his capacity on the wedding. Her repeated pleas fell on deaf ears.
Adding to her trauma, Kaiser developed tuberculosis, and instead of offering support, her in-laws allegedly used her illness as an excuse to kick her out of the house. “They told me I was contagious and asked me to leave immediately,” she said tearfully.
Victim Seeks Justice
“I was ill, homeless, and emotionally broken. I begged them not to throw me out, but no one listened,” Kaiser added. She has now sought help from the police, demanding strict action against her husband and in-laws.
FIR Registered Against 8 People
Based on Kaiser’s complaint, Mohammadpur Khala police have registered an FIR against her husband Vakil, his father Yunus, mother Saira, and relatives Jhanaka Bano, Nazreen, Atiq, Khaliq, and a sister-in-law. Police have stated that all accused will be interrogated, and further action will be taken based on evidence.
