Ayan Mukerji, the director of the much-awaited War 2, has revealed that the biggest challenge in the making of the film was crafting the high-stakes clash between two of India’s biggest stars—Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. The film, set to release on August 14, 2025, is the sixth installment in Yash Raj Films’ blockbuster Spy Universe, and expectations are sky-high.
Calling it a “huge responsibility,” Ayan said taking forward a beloved franchise like War was both an honour and a creative challenge. “I saw War 2 as an opportunity to pay tribute to the original, but also to raise the bar and create something that surprises and excites the audience,” he said.
The biggest time investment, Ayan revealed, was in planning the action and building a believable, thrilling conflict between Hrithik and Jr NTR’s characters. “Everything in War 2 has been planned very thoughtfully to take the theatrical experience to the next level. We spent the most time on the action scenes and the story—especially on the clash that justifies bringing these two titans face to face,” he explained.
According to Ayan, War 2 is not just a film, but a celebration of Indian cinema’s evolving scale, style, and stardom. With a global release scheduled just ahead of Independence Day, the film promises an action-packed spectacle that unites two powerful film industries—Bollywood and South Indian cinema—on one explosive screen.
