AI Content Labels Testing for iPhone Users

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has made this feature available to some iOS beta testers on TestFlight, using WhatsApp Beta for iOS version 26.34.10.70.

Channel admins may see an option for "AI Content Label" in the context menu of an update. Selecting this option allows admins to label content as being created or edited with AI.

Once a label is added and confirmed, it cannot be removed. This label will be visible to everyone who views the channel, including other admins.

Content created with ChatGPT and Gemini will also be labeled.

According to the report, these labels won't be limited to content created with Meta's AI tools. Administrators will be able to manually label photos and videos created or edited with any AI tool, such as Meta AI, ChatGPT, and Google Gemini.

WhatsApp may also automatically identify and label some AI-generated media. However, the full details of how this automatic identification will work and how accurate it will be are not yet known.

AI label may be required in some countries

This feature could be a major reason for increasing regulations regarding AI content. In some countries, it may be mandatory to provide information about photos and videos created with AI.

In such cases, WhatsApp may inform channel admins of this requirement through a banner. However, the company has not yet specified which countries will require this label.

The AI ​​Content Label aims to increase transparency, particularly around images and videos that appear so realistic that it can be difficult to tell whether they are real or created by AI.

After Android, now the feature is available on iOS

WhatsApp has already begun testing AI Content Labels on Android. It's now rolling out to iPhone users as well. Currently, this feature is available to a limited number of iOS beta testers, and not all users will have access to it.

In the future, after testing is complete, WhatsApp may release it to more iOS users and the stable version. However, the company has not yet announced a global rollout date.
