WhatsApp's Secret Code feature is designed to make your locked chats even more secure and private. It's part of the 'Chat Lock' feature, which lets you completely hide your locked chats from the main chat screen.
How does Secret Code work?
Hide the Locked Chats folder:
Normally, when you lock a chat, a "Locked Chats" folder appears at the top of WhatsApp's main screen. Entering a secret code makes this folder disappear from the screen.
Create a custom password/emoji:
You can set your own secret code by combining any word, number, special character, or emoji you like. It can be completely different from your phone's default PIN or fingerprint.
Access from the search bar:
To access your locked chats again, you need to enter the same secret code into WhatsApp's search bar. Once you enter the correct code, your locked chats will appear on your screen.
How to set it up/turn it on?
Open WhatsApp and go to the Locked Chats folder by dragging the screen down.
Unlock with your fingerprint or phone password.
Tap on the three dots (Settings) in the top corner and select Chat lock settings.
Turn on the Hide locked chats option.
Type your preferred Secret Code and confirm.
Its main advantages:
100% Privacy: Even if someone unlocks your phone and opens WhatsApp, they will not know that you have locked or hidden any chat.
Keep out of sight: The "Locked Chats" folder won't appear on the main screen, so it won't attract attention.
