Accept Islam or show some miracle, on hearing Aurangzeb's message Guru Tegh Bahadur said- I am a magician...

Aurangzeb told Teg Bahadur that he neither worships idols nor believes in Brahmins, so why has he come to his court with the issue of Hindus.

Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, opposed the forced conversion of non-Muslims to Islam during the reign of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. Once Aurangzeb ordered Tegh Bahadur to convert to Islam, but the Guru did not obey the order and was sentenced to death.

Dr. Trilochan Singh writes in his book 'Guru Teg Bahadur Prophet and Martyr' that Aurangzeb was aware of Sikhism and he knew that Sikhs also do not worship idols. Because of this, Aurangzeb felt that Teg Bahadur would easily agree to accept Islam because he felt ideological closeness between the two religions. According to the book, Teg Bahadur had reached Aurangzeb's court with the issue of Hindus. The Guru had said that if Muslims were in a weak position, he would stand with them too.

Guru Teg Bahadur had told Aurangzeb, 'Although my religion is not Hindu, I do not believe in the superiority of Vedas, idol worship and rituals, but I will continue to fight for the respectable living of Hindus and for their religious rights.'

It was written in the book that Aurangzeb did not agree with Teg Bahadur's words and said that either accept Islam or else you will be put in an iron cage and chained. During the imprisonment, Aurangzeb sent many messengers to Guru Teg Bahadur, but he remained firm on his stand. Harbans Singh Vardi has told about this entire incident in the book 'Guru Teg Bahadur Saviour of Hindus and Hindustan'.

Harbans Singh Vardi has written, 'One day the head of the jail said to Teg Bahadur - The king wants you to accept Islam, if it is not possible for you to do this then show some miracle, so that he can realize that you are a holy man.'

The author told that Teg Bahadur replied- 'My friend, miracle means God's grace and favour. He does not allow us to show magic in front of the world. He will get angry if his grace is misused. I do not need to show this miracle because miracles are happening in front of us every day. Is it not a miracle that the king is giving death sentence to others, but he does not know that one day he too will have to die.'

After this incident, Aurangzeb tortured Teg Bahadur's companions a lot, they were tortured in front of his eyes. Then one day Teg Bahadur was also sentenced to death.
