Operation Sindoor: India's Operation Sindoor has caused heavy damage to Pakistan. Through this operation, India has also made Pakistan realise its strength. Meanwhile, an important news has come out. The central government may increase the defence budget. This will make the army stronger.

After terrorising Pakistan with Operation Sindoor, the central government may increase the defence budget by Rs 50,000 crore. The Defence Ministry has proposed to the government to increase the funds, which may get approval in the winter session of Parliament during November-December. A report quoting government sources said that additional funds are expected to be allocated through the supplementary budget later this year, which will likely take the total defence expenditure beyond Rs 7 lakh crore for the first time.

On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had already set aside a record Rs 6.81 lakh crore for defence in the Union Budget for 2025-26. The figure represents a significant increase of 9.2 per cent from the previous year's Rs 6.22 lakh crore. If the additional allocation is approved, it will further underline the government's strategic priority towards military modernisation and national security.

Additional budget will be used for purchase of weapons

Sources said the additional budget could be used for research and development, purchase of advanced weapons, increasing ammunition stores. India may also spend on new fighter jets and missiles. The proposal is likely to be tabled for Parliament's approval during the winter session. Defence spending has seen a rapid rise since the start of Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's tenure in 2014. The Defence Ministry was allocated Rs 2.29 lakh crore in 2014-15. The current budget not only halves that figure but also marks the largest allocation among all ministries, accounting for 13 per cent of the national budget.

' Operation Sindoor ' has also drawn attention to the Indian Army's integration of indigenous defence systems with advanced technologies. In particular, the operation demonstrated the strength of India's air defence systems, including the indigenous Akash missile system, which is often compared to Israel's Iron Dome.

India is going to get a new counter-drone system

In a related development, India also tested a new anti-drone weapon called Bhargavastra. Designed as a low-cost counter-drone system that operates in a 'hard kill' mode, it uses micro-rockets to neutralise aerial threats. The system was successfully tested at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha earlier this week.
