Responding to Akhilesh Yadav's question regarding the census in the Lok Sabha on the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill, Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Akhilesh Yadav asked why the census isn't being conducted. I want to inform the people of the country through this House that the census work has begun and is ongoing." Shah said, "Akhilesh said he would demand a caste census. So let him know that the government has decided to conduct a caste census. The census is being conducted alongside the caste census."

Amit Shah said that Dharmendra Yadav is saying that there is no column. He should know that currently, a census of houses is being conducted. Houses do not have any caste. If the SP had its way, it would determine the caste of houses too. As soon as he said this, hooting started in the House. Akhilesh Yadav started laughing. Dharmendra Yadav started getting up from his seat. Then Akhilesh signaled him to sit. Shah said that when a census of individuals, citizens, is conducted, then a column for caste will be included in it. I want to assure the House that this census will be conducted along with the caste census.
