Bharat Taxi Expands Across India: 8 Lakh Drivers and 41 Lakh Customers, Check Where It Is Available

India's government-backed ride-hailing platform Bharat Taxi is expanding its presence across the country and could give passengers another option for booking cabs and autos.

According to the latest government update, Bharat Taxi had nearly 8 lakh registered drivers and around 41 lakh registered customers as of July 25, 2026. The platform is already operational in several major cities, including Jaipur, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Pune.

What Is Bharat Taxi?

Bharat Taxi is India's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform. It was established under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies framework with the aim of creating a model in which drivers have a greater stake in the platform.

Unlike conventional ride-hailing platforms, Bharat Taxi follows a cooperative approach, with drivers known as Sarathis becoming part of the cooperative ecosystem.

Nearly 8 Lakh Drivers Have Registered

The platform has expanded rapidly since its launch.

As of July 25, Bharat Taxi had nearly 8 lakh registered Sarathis and around 41 lakh registered customers. The service is currently operational in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kanpur and Pune.

This growing user base could make the platform a more significant alternative to established cab-booking services.

Jaipur Users Can Already Use Bharat Taxi

For people in Jaipur, Bharat Taxi is already operational.

Government data shows that as of July 25, more than 30,000 Sarathis and nearly 7 lakh customers had joined the platform in Jaipur.

This makes Jaipur one of the cities where users can already explore the service instead of waiting for a future rollout.

Zero-Commission Model for Drivers

One of Bharat Taxi's key features is its zero-commission model.

Under this system, no commission is deducted from the fare earned by a Sarathi for rides booked through the platform. The model is intended to allow drivers to retain more of their earnings from each ride.

This is one of the major differences between Bharat Taxi and traditional app-based ride-hailing models.

More Cities Are Expected to Join

Bharat Taxi is not stopping at its existing network.

The government says operations are planned to expand to Ranchi, Patna, Guwahati, Bhopal, Kolkata, Indore and Nagpur in the coming months.

If the expansion happens as planned, passengers in these cities will get another option for booking rides through a nationally backed platform.

What Does This Mean for Passengers?

For customers, the biggest advantage of having another ride-hailing platform is increased choice.

More platforms can give passengers additional options when comparing availability, fares and ride types. However, the actual experience can vary depending on the number of drivers available in a particular city and at a particular time.

Bharat Taxi's expansion could also be particularly useful in cities where customers currently depend heavily on a small number of ride-booking platforms.

A New Model for India's Cab Industry

Bharat Taxi is attempting to bring a cooperative model into India's rapidly growing app-based transportation sector.

With nearly 8 lakh registered drivers and around 41 lakh customers already on the platform, the service has moved beyond the early stage of its rollout.

As more cities are added, passengers will have another option to compare when booking everyday rides.

If you live in Jaipur, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune or another currently covered city, Bharat Taxi is already worth checking when you book your next cab or auto.
