After months of speculation, the release date of Bhoot Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar, has finally been locked. The film, which was earlier believed to be postponed due to the massive box-office threat from Dhurandhar 2, will now arrive in cinemas on May 15, 2026.
Why Was Bhoot Bangla Delayed?
Initially announced in 2024, Bhoot Bangla was first slated for a 2025 release. Later, the makers pushed it to April 2, 2026. However, with Dhurandhar 2—the sequel to a ₹1,200-crore blockbuster—scheduled to release on March 19, 2026, industry buzz suggested that Akshay Kumar’s film was being deliberately moved to avoid a direct clash.
That speculation has now been confirmed indirectly, as the new release date places Bhoot Bangla 44 days away from Dhurandhar 2, ensuring a safer box-office window.
Official Announcement by the Makers
The new date was revealed by Balaji Motion Pictures, which shared a post on social media along with vintage-style posters of Akshay Kumar. The caption read:
“News has come from the bungalow… the doors will now open on May 15, 2026.”
The film is directed by Priyadarshan, marking yet another collaboration between the filmmaker and Akshay Kumar—one that fans of comedy and horror are eagerly awaiting.
No Clash With Dhurandhar 2, But a Twist Remains
With this shift, Bhoot Bangla is now completely out of danger from Ranveer Singh’s Ranveer Singh Dhurandhar 2. However, there is an interesting twist.
Another film, VVAN, starring Sidharth Malhotra, is also scheduled for release on May 15, 2026. Coincidentally, both films are backed by the same production house.
Industry insiders believe that this means VVAN will likely be postponed yet again, with an official announcement expected soon—effectively clearing the date for Akshay Kumar.
Big Year Ahead for Akshay Kumar
After a mixed 2025, Akshay Kumar is banking heavily on 2026, with multiple big releases lined up, including two films directed by Priyadarshan. With Bhoot Bangla now firmly dated, all eyes are on whether this horror-comedy can finally deliver the massive box-office success Akshay Kumar has been waiting for.
