Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 has wrapped up its second week in theatres, and the numbers are in. Despite being one of the most anticipated action films of the year, the sequel is struggling to match the performance of the first War (2019). With a budget of ₹400 crore, the film is yet to fully recover its cost.
War 2 India Collections
In 14 days, War 2 has earned ₹229.75 crore net in India. On Wednesday alone, the film collected ₹2.50 crore, bringing its gross domestic total to ₹271.50 crore. The film’s daily average, which once hovered around ₹5 crore, has now slipped to ₹2 crore — a worrying trend.
The situation could worsen as new releases like Sidharth Malhotra–Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari enter theatres this week, further dividing audience attention.
Worldwide Box Office
Globally, War 2 has collected ₹347.50 crore so far. Adding Wednesday’s figures, the film’s worldwide total stands at ₹350 crore. That still leaves the movie ₹50 crore short of its production budget. The third weekend will be crucial in deciding whether it can break even.
Comparison with War (2019)
The first film, War (2019), starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, had a blockbuster run and closed at ₹471 crore worldwide. In comparison, War 2 is already ₹121 crore behind and looks unlikely to surpass its predecessor.
The Road Ahead
With competition from Coolie and Mahavatar Narasimha already denting collections, and fresh releases arriving, War 2 faces an uphill battle. Unless it holds strongly in its third weekend, the film might end up as a moderate performer instead of the record-shattering hit YRF envisioned.
