A shocking incident disrupted a wedding celebration in Buxar, where a bride was shot during her Jaimala ceremony by a man allegedly obsessed with her. The incident took place in Chausa Nagar Panchayat, leaving the entire area in shock.
The bride, Aarti Kumari (18), had just arrived on stage with the groom as wedding rituals were underway. The marriage procession had come from Ballia. Amid the celebrations, a young man suddenly climbed onto the stage and opened fire at close range, critically injuring the bride.
Accused fled after firing
Eyewitnesses said the accused, Deenbandhu Mallah, a neighbour of the bride, covered his face before pulling out a pistol and shooting her. Panic broke out at the venue as the bride collapsed on the stage. Taking advantage of the chaos, the accused escaped from the spot.
Alleged motive: Obsession and threats
According to family members, the accused had been pursuing Aarti for some time and was reportedly involved in a one-sided romantic obsession. He had earlier opposed her marriage and allegedly issued threats, saying that if she did not marry him, he would not allow her to marry anyone else.
Despite repeated warnings and refusal by the bride’s family, the accused allegedly planned the attack on the wedding day.
Condition critical, referred to Varanasi
The injured bride was first taken to Sadar Hospital in Buxar and later referred to the Trauma Centre in Varanasi due to her critical condition. Doctors stated that she remains under intensive care.
Police investigation underway
A team from Mufassil Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation. Additional SHO Chandan Kumar said preliminary findings point to an obsession driven by unrequited love.
Police have identified the accused and are conducting raids at multiple locations to arrest him. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
