Violent protests are taking place in several cities across Pakistan to protest the US-Israeli attacks on Iran and the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The violence, which has erupted from Karachi to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, has so far claimed the lives of 35 civilians, while over 100 others have been injured. It is believed that these deaths were caused by gunfire during the protests, although Pakistan has not yet confirmed this.
According to Pakistani media reports, 16 civilians have died in Karachi during the violent protests. Seven civilians have also died in Gilgit, six in Skardu, and six in Islamabad. Sources say all these civilians were killed in clashes between security forces and the US Marine Corps. As the situation worsened, the Punjab government declared a state of emergency in hospitals across the province late last night. Other provincial governments have also issued alerts. Heavy police deployments have been made in Shia-dominated areas.
Instructions to hospitals not to release actual figures
Sources claim that some hospitals in Islamabad have been instructed not to release actual figures. Similar instructions have been issued to government and private hospitals in other provinces. Pakistani media reports claim that after the initial figures were released, hospitals are no longer providing information on the number of injured and dead. In response to the situation, security has been increased in several cities, and authorities have appealed to the public to maintain peace.
