US Central Command responded to Iran's claim of shooting down an American aircraft by posting on the social media platform X. Centcom rejected Tehran's claim.
While the US and Iran are negotiating a peace agreement, both sides are simultaneously attacking each other. Iran claimed that its military shot down a US fighter jet near the city of Bushehr. The US responded to the claim, made on Iranian state television, calling it completely false.
Centcom dismissed the claim.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) dismissed Iran's claim in a post on the social media platform X. In a post titled "Fact Check," CENTCOM wrote, "Iranian state TV claims that Iranian forces shot down a US fighter jet near the city of Bushehr. This is completely false. CENTCOM further wrote, "No US aircraft were shot down. All US air assets are completely safe."
What does Iran claim?
Iran's state TV quoted a local official as saying on Thursday (May 28) that its air defense system shot down a fighter jet near Bushehr in southern Iran. The incident occurred near the coastal province, the report said.
According to Iran's Tasnim news agency, Jam County Governor Masoud Tangestani said a US plane was destroyed in the Jam area of Bushehr. He said, "The incident that happened tonight involved the downing of an enemy plane. Now the situation in the city is normal."
Meanwhile, a draft peace agreement between the United States and Iran is reportedly ready. A US official said Iranian negotiators have agreed to extend the ceasefire for 60 days and resume nuclear talks, awaiting approval from US President Donald Trump on the tentative agreement.
