Christmas Special Train: In view of the increased passenger rush during Christmas and New Year 2025-26, Indian Railways has notified 244 special train trips across eight zones. Additional trains will run on major routes in North, West, South and East India, including Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Nagpur, and Pune-Sanganer. The Railways aims to provide passengers with confirmed tickets, better connectivity and stress-free, convenient travel options during the festive season.
Christmas Special Train: In anticipation of the increased passenger traffic during Christmas and New Year 2025-26, Indian Railways has decided to operate a large number of special trains. So far, the Railways has notified a total of 244 special trips across eight zones. According to officials, more trips may be added in the coming days depending on demand, ensuring passengers have access to confirmed tickets and a smooth journey.
Special trains will run in eight zones
According to data released by the Railways, the number of trips for special trains has been notified in different zones. Central Railway (CR) has the highest number of trips at 76, followed by Western Railway (WR) at 72, South Western Railway (SWR) at 28, South Central Railway (SCR) at 26, South East Central Railway (SECR) at 24, Northern Railway (NR) at 8, North Western Railway (NWR) at 6, and North East Frontier Railway (NFR) at 4. The total number of trips reaches 244.
More emphasis on Mumbai-Goa corridor
The Railways has placed special emphasis on the Mumbai-Goa (Konkan) corridor, a highly sought-after route during the festive season. Daily and weekly special trains are being operated between Mumbai CSMT and LTT, Karmali, and Madgaon. These trains will stop at major stations and offer additional seating and sleeper options, providing significant relief to tourists traveling to Konkan.
Relief on routes to Maharashtra and Western India
Special trains have also been introduced on other busy routes in Maharashtra, including Mumbai–Nagpur and Pune–Sanganer. These services aim to ease congestion on regular trains and provide passengers with a comfortable travel option during the festive season.
Convenience for travelers from North and East India
Long-distance special trains are being run on the busy corridors connecting Delhi, Howrah, Lucknow and surrounding cities in North and East India, allowing people to easily return home or reach holiday destinations.
Additional services in South and Central India
Additional services have been introduced connecting Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and other major cities in the southern and central regions. Multiple trips have been added on routes such as CSMT-Karmali, LTT-Thiruvananthapuram, Pune-Sanganer, and CSMT-Nagpur.
