India is witnessing a renewed rise in COVID-19 cases, raising concerns among health officials and the public. As of June 2, 2025, the total number of active coronavirus cases in the country has climbed to 3,961, with 203 new infections and 4 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
According to the latest health bulletin, the fatalities were reported from Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra, each state confirming one COVID-related death.
COVID-19 Resurgence: An Overview
After a long period of low transmission, COVID-19 is once again making headlines. The sudden increase in active cases has prompted authorities to re-evaluate monitoring and containment strategies. The total death toll has now reached 32, while the number of recovered patients stands at 2,188, including 370 recoveries in the last 24 hours alone.
State-Wise Breakdown of Cases
Kerala: The Epicenter of the Current Spike
Kerala continues to report the highest number of cases, with the state’s total reaching 1,436. In the past 24 hours, 35 new cases and 1 death were recorded. On a positive note, 161 patients in the state recovered during the same period.
Maharashtra, Delhi, and Gujarat Also on High Alert
Following Kerala, Maharashtra has reported 506 active cases. One death and 21 new infections were noted in the last 24 hours, while 43 patients recovered. The death toll in the state now stands at 8.
In Delhi, the number of active cases has reached 483. The capital recorded 47 new cases and 1 death in the past day. Meanwhile, 82 people recovered from the infection.
Gujarat has also seen a steady rise, with the total number of active cases reaching 338. The state reported 18 new infections, 1 death, and 11 recoveries over the last 24 hours.
Rising Numbers in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu
In Karnataka, 15 new cases were reported, pushing the total count to 253, with 4 deaths so far. 2 patients were discharged after recovery in the last 24 hours.
Uttar Pradesh recorded 8 new infections, taking the total number of reported cases to 157, along with 2 deaths.
Tamil Nadu continues to report sporadic cases, and one COVID-related death was confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Smaller States Also Affected
Even smaller states like Jharkhand and Rajasthan have not been spared. Jharkhand currently has 11 confirmed active cases, with 5 new cases reported in a single day. One patient has been discharged after recovery.
In Rajasthan, the total case count has climbed to 69. The state reported 7 new infections, 13 recoveries, and 1 death in the last 24 hours.

With the surge in cases, health departments across states are on alert. Efforts are being made to monitor hotspots, expand testing, and ensure the availability of hospital beds.
