Elderly Man Dies by Suicide in Gwalior; Daughter-in-Law Accused of Harassment

A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where a 95-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after prolonged harassment by his daughter-in-law and other family members. The incident occurred in Nehru Colony under the jurisdiction of Thatipur police station.
The deceased has been identified as Ramadhar Gupta, a former dairy businessman. Police said the incident came to notice after family members heard a gunshot from his room. He was found critically injured and was declared dead on the spot.
Suicide Note Points to Family Harassment
During investigation, police recovered a suicide note from the scene. According to officials, the note mentions that the elderly man was under severe mental and physical distress due to alleged mistreatment by his eldest daughter-in-law. Continuous family disputes and harassment reportedly pushed him into extreme despair.
Police seized the licensed firearm and the suicide note as part of the investigation.
Case Registered, Investigation Underway
The incident has caused widespread shock and anger in the locality. Neighbours stated that the elderly man required care and support at his advanced age but was allegedly subjected to abuse instead.
Police have conducted the inquest proceedings and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Based on the contents of the suicide note, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the accused family members. Further legal action is underway, police officials confirmed.
