Farmers Above 60 Can Get ₹3,000 Monthly Pension: Check PM-Kisan Maandhan Yojana Eligibility and Benefits

The government’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY) has completed seven years, offering an important social-security option for small and marginal farmers. Under the scheme, eligible farmers can receive a minimum assured pension of ₹3,000 per month after turning 60.

The scheme was launched on September 12, 2019, with the aim of helping farmers secure a regular income during their old age. According to the government, more than 24.96 lakh farmers had enrolled under PM-KMY by February 2026.

What Is PM-Kisan Maandhan Yojana?

PM-KMY is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme designed specifically for small and marginal landholding farmers.

Eligible farmers make regular contributions towards the scheme. After reaching the age of 60, they are entitled to a monthly pension of ₹3,000.

The scheme is intended to provide financial stability to farmers after they stop actively working in agriculture.

Who Can Join the Scheme?

The scheme is meant for eligible small and marginal farmers who meet the prescribed conditions.

Farmers considering enrolment should check the latest eligibility requirements before applying, as the scheme has specific conditions relating to landholding, age and other exclusions.

Both male and female farmers can participate if they meet the eligibility criteria.

How Much Pension Will Farmers Get?

The biggest attraction of PM-KMY is its assured pension of ₹3,000 per month from the age of 60.

This means an eligible beneficiary can receive up to ₹36,000 per year as pension after reaching the specified age.

The pension is designed to provide a basic financial safety net for farmers who may otherwise have limited sources of regular income in old age.

Why Is This Scheme Important?

Agriculture often involves uncertain earnings, and many small farmers may not have access to a formal pension after leaving farming.

PM-KMY attempts to address this gap by creating a dedicated pension mechanism for small and marginal farmers.

The government says the scheme is aimed at ensuring that farmers can enter their later years with greater financial security and dignity.

More Than 24 Lakh Farmers Have Enrolled

The scheme has continued to expand since its launch in 2019.

As of February 2026, 24,96,252 farmers had enrolled under PM-KMY. Haryana had the highest number of enrolments at around 5.75 lakh, followed by Bihar with more than 3.46 lakh.

What Should Farmers Do?

Farmers who are interested in securing a pension for their later years should check whether they qualify under PM-KMY and complete the required enrolment process through the authorised channels.

The scheme can be particularly relevant for small and marginal farmers who want to build a source of regular income for retirement.

With PM-KMY now completing seven years, the government continues to position the scheme as an important part of its efforts to strengthen social security for India's farming community.
