The Government of India has recently launched a new service called e-Zero FIR, which aims to strengthen cyber security and speed up the investigation of high value cyber crimes. At present, this system has been started as a pilot project in Delhi, under which cyber crime complaints of more than Rs 10 lakh will automatically be converted into FIR.

Through this new initiative, the government wants to speed up investigations and take immediate action against cyber criminals.

The noose will tighten rapidly on cyber criminals

In a release issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 19, 2025, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has launched a new e-Zero FIR initiative to catch cyber criminals faster.

Amit Shah further said, "The new system, launched as a pilot project for Delhi, will automatically convert cyber financial crimes of more than Rs 10 lakh registered on NCRP or 1930 into FIRs. The new system, which will speed up investigations by taking swift action against cyber criminals, will soon be implemented across the country. The Modi government is strengthening the cyber security grid to create a cyber-safe India."

Complaints above 10 lakh will be automatically converted into e-Zero FIR

The new system will automatically convert complaints of more than Rs 10 lakh lodged through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 into e-Zero FIRs. These FIRs will be registered electronically at the e-crime police stations in Delhi and later transferred to the cyber crime police stations where the incident has occurred.

Complainants will have a maximum of three days to convert their zero FIR into a regular FIR by going to the concerned police station. This will speed up the legal process and lead to quick resolution.

Auto-FIR initiative started as a pilot project in Delhi

Although the government's Auto-FIR initiative is currently being launched as a pilot project in Delhi, the government plans to launch it in other states and union territories in the future. In the long term, the government's goal is to create a cyber-safe India.

The e-Crime Police Station of Delhi has already been officially notified to register e-FIRs for specific cyber crime complaints lodged on the NCRP platform and transfer them to the regional police stations.
