A dramatic conspiracy unfolded inside Lucknow’s district jail when Anubhav Mittal, the key accused in the massive ₹3,700 crore “Mom-Bomb” cyber fraud, allegedly used a police constable’s mobile phone to email a death threat to a judge on the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench. While Mittal has been in jail since February 2017—facing over 324 criminal charges related to fraud, cybercrime, and money laundering—he remains at the center of controversy for attempting to frame another inmate through this act.

The November 4 Incident: Conspiracy from Jail

On November 4, during a court hearing, a police constable lent Mittal a mobile phone under the pretense of checking his case status. Mittal used the device to create a new email account and sent a threatening mail to a judge, claiming another inmate, Anandeshwar Agrahari, was plotting murder. This move was later revealed as an attempt to settle personal scores within the jail, after Mittal’s rivalry with Agrahari.

A prompt investigation by the Cyber Cell and Crime Branch revealed that the threatening email originated from the constable's phone, and that Mittal orchestrated the plot to frame Agrahari by misleading both court and jail authorities.

Legal Fallout and Security Concerns

FIRs have been registered against both Anubhav Mittal and Constable Ajay Kumar under IT Act and criminal intimidation sections, while a probe investigates the access to mobile phones inside prison walls. The episode exposes continued lapses in jail security and underscores the mastermind’s persistent capacity for high-tech deception despite incarceration.
