The accused
has been identified as Brijesh Kumar, originally from Jharkhand and working at a homestay. He allegedly spiked the victim's drink and raped her. A rape complaint was filed at the Kutta police station in Kodagu, which mentions sexual assault of a foreign national. Both accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

According to reports, the homestay owner allegedly turned off the Wi-Fi for three days, leaving the victim unable to contact anyone during that time. After the Wi-Fi was restored, she left the homestay, pretending to go to Mysuru. Subsequently, she informed the US Embassy about the assault. US officials contacted the Mysuru police authorities via email, based on which a case was formally registered.
