Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda has reportedly faced a major disappointment in 2026, as the much-discussed sequel to his film Kingdom has now been officially cancelled. While there was strong buzz around Kingdom 2 during and after the release of the first part, the makers have finally put all speculation to rest.
High Expectations, Disappointing Outcome
Released in July 2025, Kingdom was one of Vijay Deverakonda’s most ambitious projects in recent years. Both the actor and the production team were confident that the film would revive his box-office form. During promotions, the movie was projected as the first part of a larger franchise, which further raised audience expectations.
However, despite the hype, Kingdom failed to perform as expected at the box office. According to reports, the film managed to earn only around ₹82 crore worldwide, which came as a significant setback for the makers, especially considering its scale and budget.
Producer Confirms: No ‘Kingdom 2’
Putting an end to all rumours, producer Naga Vamsi recently confirmed that Kingdom 2 will not be made. He revealed that although the story was initially planned as a multi-part franchise and several plot threads were intentionally left open, the underwhelming box-office performance of the first film forced the team to reconsider.
The producer clearly stated that reviving the sequel is no longer on the table and that the project has been officially shelved.
Reason Behind the Decision
During the interaction, Naga Vamsi also mentioned that discussing the issue in detail could negatively impact the film’s director Gautham Tinnanuri, and therefore, he chose to close the chapter respectfully. He added that Gautham is currently working on a completely different film, and after that project, the producer and director are expected to collaborate again on a new concept, not related to Kingdom.
About the Film ‘Kingdom’
Kingdom featured Vijay Deverakonda in the role of Suri, a police constable who turns into a spy and embarks on a dangerous covert mission in Sri Lanka. The film also starred Satyadev, Venkatesh, and Bhagyashree Borse in key roles. Despite a strong cast and an intriguing premise, the film failed to strike a chord with a wider audience.
What’s Next for Vijay Deverakonda?
Vijay Deverakonda has been going through a rough phase at the box office. Before Kingdom, he was last seen in The Family Star (2024), which also underperformed. He later appeared in a cameo role in Kalki 2898 AD, but that did little to change his lead-actor track record.
Looking ahead, Vijay will next be seen in Rowdy Janardhana, where he is set to play a gangster. Fans are hopeful that this upcoming film will help the actor bounce back and re-establish his strong hold at the box office.
