A long-standing land dispute in Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh turned fatal on Wednesday evening when a fight broke out between two brothers over the ownership of four bighas of land. The violent clash in Karaiya Banet village left two family members dead and four others seriously injured.

According to police reports, brothers Raj Mahendra Yadav and Krishnabhan Yadav had been quarrelling for months over the family’s farmland. Their father, Khilan Singh Yadav, had previously divided the property, but tensions resurfaced when Raj Mahendra allegedly sowed seeds on his father’s four-bigha portion. Angered by this act, Krishnabhan arrived at the field with a tractor, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into a bloody fight involving sticks and axes.

When father Khilan Singh and nephew Pawan Yadav tried to intervene, they were both attacked and sustained fatal injuries. With the help of villagers, the injured were rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared Khilan Singh and Pawan Yadav dead. Four others, including both brothers, were injured; two of them remain in critical condition and have been referred to Bhopal for advanced treatment.

Eyewitnesses said that family members had made several attempts in the past to mediate the dispute, but bitterness persisted. On Wednesday, the tension over sowing rights ignited into violent confrontation, resulting in tragedy.

Ashoknagar Additional Superintendent of Police Gajendra Kanwar confirmed that a case of murder and attempted murder has been registered. Sticks and axes used in the attack have been seized. Police personnel have been deployed in the village to prevent further violence, and the investigation is ongoing.
