JSW-backed MG Motor India is preparing for one of its most ambitious product expansions yet, with the company set to introduce multiple new models in the Indian market during 2026. As part of this strategy, MG will soon roll out two key vehicles—one a large, off-road-focused SUV and the other a technologically advanced plug-in hybrid—both aimed at reshaping competition in their respective segments.
The automaker has confirmed plans to introduce four new models this year. While details of two products remain undisclosed, the first two launches have already generated strong interest among customers and industry watchers.
MG Magester to Lead the Charge in the Premium SUV Segment
The first confirmed launch is the MG Magester, a large, rugged SUV that will serve as MG’s flagship internal combustion offering in India. Pre-bookings for the Magester are already open, with customers able to reserve the vehicle by paying a token amount of ₹41,000. The SUV is expected to go on sale in April 2026.
Positioned as a premium off-road-capable vehicle, the Magester will be offered in three variants—Sharp, Savvy, and Savvy 4X4—catering to both urban buyers and adventure-oriented customers. Powering the SUV will be a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. This setup is expected to deliver 215 horsepower and 478 Nm of torque, placing the Magester among the most powerful SUVs in its class.
In terms of size, MG claims the Magester will be the largest vehicle in its segment, measuring 5,046 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width, and 1,876 mm in height. These proportions are expected to translate into a commanding road presence as well as a spacious cabin.
Feature-Rich Cabin and Advanced Safety Technology
The MG Magester will place strong emphasis on technology and comfort. The SUV is set to feature a 12.3-inch free-floating infotainment display, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a 12-speaker JBL premium audio system. Additional highlights include 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and connected-car features.
On the safety front, the Magester will offer Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), positioning it competitively against other premium SUVs in the Indian market.
Plug-In Hybrid SUV to Mark MG’s Next Electrification Step
Alongside the Magester, MG Motor India is also preparing to introduce a plug-in hybrid SUV, internally codenamed 520. This model is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is currently on sale in China.
The upcoming MG hybrid SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a powerful electric motor producing around 194 bhp. Energy storage will be handled by an LFP battery pack ranging from 9.5 kWh to 20.5 kWh, depending on the variant.
According to available data from its Chinese counterpart, the plug-in hybrid system offers a combined driving range of up to 1,110 kilometres, with a claimed fuel consumption of 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres—figures that could significantly appeal to Indian buyers seeking efficiency without compromising performance.
Practical Dimensions and Market Positioning
Dimensionally, the MG plug-in hybrid SUV is expected to measure approximately 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and between 1,755 mm and 1,770 mm in height. It is likely to be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations, making it suitable for family buyers.
In India, the hybrid SUV will compete directly with upcoming midsize and full-size SUVs, including the Mahindra XUV7XO.
A Strategic Year for MG Motor India
With these launches, MG Motor India is signaling a clear intent to strengthen its presence across multiple powertrain categories—diesel, electric, and hybrid. The combination of a feature-rich flagship SUV and a long-range plug-in hybrid underscores the brand’s push toward technology-driven mobility while addressing diverse consumer needs.
